John McCain Announces Sense of Humor
The
McCain campaign distributed a
video
Friday that ridicules Obama and his campaign. Using amateurish and
sometimes dishonest editing, the video mocks Barack Obama as a
pseudo-religious figure with a fervent following. It goes to the
extreme of comparing him to Moses. The video attempts to be humorous,
or so we have been told, but it fails as humor, first, because it is not
funny, but, second, and more importantly, because it reveals John McCain as
a petty man who is envious of Obama's success. One receives the
impression that John Sidney McCain is truly perturbed that someone other
than him is popular.
The
Associated Press reported yesterday that McCain "defended his campaign's
new Web ad mocking Barack Obama as a presumptuous messianic figure, saying
it was important to 'display a sense of humor' in the presidential contest."
The biggest problem with John McCain's "sense of humor" is
that he has a creepy laugh that he launches into when he says something that
he hopes is funny ― even when it is not. He's
sort of like the old, old "funny uncle" who corners you at the family
reunion and grabs and scratches his crotch as he spits out two or three
choice obscenities and then chortles as he continues to scratch himself.
If anyone dares to complain that they are offended, he growls angrily,
"What's wrong with you? Can't you take a joke?"
Another problem with John Sidney McCain's
alleged "sense of humor" is that he takes himself too seriously. He
complained that Obama was making an ageist remark when he said that John
McCain had "lost his bearings" on a particular issue. Losing one's
bearings has nothing to do with age, and, in fact, I have never heard the
phrase used in that manner. But Laughing John claimed that he found it
offensive. Methinks he was establishing a phony issue in order to
insulate himself from future commentary concerning his inability to remember
the difference between Sunnis and Shiites, the status of the former nation
of Czechoslovakia, and so on.
The more one considers Laughing John's
recent misbehavior, the less it looks like a matter of humor ― and the more he
looks like a sneaky, sniveling, conniving old galoot who uses a
phlegm-drenched snicker to berate his opponent while desperately trying to
cover his manifold faults.
It may be tempting to take Laughing John at his dubious
word and makes jokes about him, but, truth to tell, he cuts much too
pathetic a figure for that.
And, by the way, please
don't mistake anything in this post to be disparaging of the Senior Senator
from Arizona. If I have said anything that suggests to you that
Laughing John Sidney McCain is a devious, grouchy vampire who wants Iranian
blood to extend his dark, hollow life, then you are wrong. Just
joking! What's wrong with you ― scratch scratch ― can't
you take a joke?
